4th July Re-opening To Visitors
Formal notice from the UK Government has not yet been received regarding the date we can start to welcome visitors back to Teesdale. It is being widely proposed as the 4th of July with many national tourist sites promoting the first weekend of July as the date we can begin to welcome back visitors.
The Caravan & Motorhome Club are planning a phased re-opening from Saturday 4th July. Nationally country cottage bookings are being taken from the 4th of July.
If we can offer a self-contained cottage, pod or caravan with sufficient deep cleaning in between guests…now is the time we can start to think about welcoming visitors back.
Why Visit Teesdale Now?
Tourist information regarding Teesdale has been fragmented for years. There are pockets of excellent information and This is Durham does an excellent job in promoting county wide tourism, but if us residents were initially confused as to the whereabouts of the “Durham Dales”, what do visitors from outside the area make of the description.
How can visitors possibly hope to enjoy the uniqueness of each of our dales if they are described in generic terms?
Visit Teesdale promotes that individuality. Working with small businesses we want to encourage sustainable tourism for the “new normal”. With over £900 million spent by visitors in County Durham in 2017 the outlook in the first two quarters of 2020, was bleak. But as the Government moves towards re-starting the economy it is expected that self-contained UK tourism can begin again from Saturday 4th July. Visitors to Teesdale come for many reasons. Walking holidays. Peace and tranquility. Wildlife watching. The beauty of the area. Our amazing dark skies.
